El trabajo de investigación del Grupo LAELE se enmarca dentro del estudio interdisciplinar de la lingüística aplicada. Así, con una orientación basada en la psicolingüística y la lingüística aplicada, el Grupo LAELE tiene como línea principal de trabajo la investigación sobre la adquisición, el procesamiento, la enseñanza, el aprendizaje y la evaluación de las lenguas extranjeras, principalmente del español y el inglés. El grupo examina también el impacto del lenguaje sobre varios aspectos cognitivos y sociales, como las emociones. Su investigación está basada en estudios empíricos, incluyendo estudios conductuales y electrofisiológicos.
