Dr. Alzua-Sorzabal holds a doctorate in International Tourism from Purdue University in the USA. She is currently a professor at Nebrija University and has a dual affiliation with the University of Deusto. Dr. Alzua-Sorzabal is the director of Telefónica-Nebrija, Chair of Tourism Intelligence, and the principal researcher of the Research and Innovation in Smart Tourism group. She is also the co-founder of Lurmetrika Labs, a data-driven tourism company. Dr. Alzua-Sorzabal has previously served as the Research Centre's Executive Director for Tourism Research Competencies, CICtourGUNE. Dr. Alzua-Sorzabal has coordinated several academic programs, including the Erasmus Mundus Master of Arts in Euroculture. She has also lectured on tourism and research methods in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. Dr. Alzua-Sorzabal has led several competitive research projects and collaborated with Basque, Spanish, and international public administrations. She has been the principal investigator in more than 21 projects with a significant research budget and is currently responsible for two projects of the National RETOS Program. Dr. Alzua-Sorzabal's research focuses on tourism digital business ecosystems, carbon neutrality in tourism, and smart destinations. She has authored over sixty-five publications on tourism, big data, advanced analytics, information technology, and smart destinations, including books, book chapters, and scientific journals. She currently serves as a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Information Technology & Tourism and regularly collaborates as a reviewer of scientific journals.
