The present study analysed the vocabulary and other linguistic features used by 27 Chinese learners of Spanish in oral autobiographical narratives. These narratives were induced by film clips eliciting emotions of different valence. The analysis focused on emotionality (i.e. amount and valence of the emotional vocabulary), lexical complexity, egocentricity, space and personal distance, and grammatical categories of the vocabulary used by the participants. The results revealed that oral productions induced by emotional stimuli were lengthier, lexically more varied, and included more emotional words. In addition, participants used more positive words, especially verbs, and more first-person pronouns and present tenses. These results highlight the need to conduct qualitative analyses in which other verbal and nonverbal elements are taken into account, rather than only the lexical components.
