Résumé
Ghost stories have the potential to address the understanding of social conflict in a way that the institution is not capable of achieving. Within a basic symbolic framework, we can define ghosts as marginal beings, so official and elite attempts at ideological control to employ inclusion-based policies cannot be successful, because the state does not have an institution that can challenge the symbolic definition of ghostly marginality. Indeed, it is not surprising that marginality is a key feature of ghost stories in general, given the liminal characteristics of ghosts themselves. So, what do present-day ghosts look like? How do they reveal themselves? We will explore these questions by means of four contemporary artistic processes to better understand the figure of the ghost, by highlighting the distinctions that cause spectrality, which can be described as invisibility.
