Resumen

Language teachers play a crucial role in facilitating the social inclusion of migrants and refugees. While the profile of teachers of Spanish as a foreign language has received attention in recent years (Muñoz-Basols et al., 2017), studies focusing on teachers working in migration contexts remain still very scarce. Understanding the motivations and challenges experienced by these teachers is essential to understand their working reality. This research explores the factors that determine the professional identity of 34 Spanish teachers in the contexts of migration. For this purpose, an online questionnaire with open-ended questions was conducted, and a thematic analysis was carried out through a mixed coding process (Gibbs, 2013). The results reveal an identity profile strongly constructed on the teacher’ role as an intercultural mediator (Kramsch, 2014) and as an agent of social transformation (Crozet, 2016).
