Abstract

This study is part of the research project on Initial Level Language Certification developed by Universidad Antonio de Nebrija since 2008 for the General Department of Immigration of the Autonomous Community of Madrid. The outcome of the project is the certification test of level A2–n (Diploma LETRA in Spanish Language for immigrant workers), for which three examination sessions have already been convened (890 candidates in total), being the fourth in progress. The relevance of discourse genres to evaluate the sociolinguistic and pragmatic competence in written interaction will be shown and the mechanisms of courtesy that characterize emails will be considered
