Resumen

Introduction: Self-asessment is a person´s evaluation by himself/herself, having to question his/her performance. In the field of medical clinical training its use has shown important improvement in theoretical practical performance. Objective: To compare the student´s selfasessment grades for each placement of practical clinical training with the grades awarded by the professional tutor. Methods: Descriptive study using data from from the clinical practice grades obtained by students from the Red Cross University Nursing School in Madrid (Spain) during the 2013/2014 academical year. Variables used: Self-asessment grade (SAG) and profesional tutor´s grade (PTG). Results: Average SAGs increase as they advance through their placements, whereas average PTGs increase for the first placements and decrease afterwards. Covariance and correlation coefficient between SAG and PTG for each placement are close to 0. Discussion: Although some studies show that there is a relationship between Self-asessment and the grades awarded to the students, we didn´t find such relationship. Rise of SAG and decrease of PTG with placement advancement is a tendency wich needs confirmation with long-term studies. In any case it´s something to reflect upon in order to guarantee proper learning.
