Abstract

This work analyzes the school segregation of students with special educational needs in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Secondary Education. Specifically, it has a dual objective: to estimate the magnitude of school segregation and to determine the impact of school ownership and the Bilingual Program of the Community of Madrid. We use data from 25,767 students enrolled in publicly funded schools in a large locality within the Community of Madrid. The results reveal that approximately 18% of students with special educational needswould need to change schools to eliminate school segregation. Additionally, while the incidence of ownership in segregation is low (averaging 2.5%), the Bilingual Program demonstrates a high incidence (18.6%).
